The new MATRADE Exhibition Centre derives its unique massing from ‘rubber seed’, which symbolizes the historic economic background of Malaysia. This 1,000,000 sq.ft. Expo center contains 3 floors of exhibition hall with a column free space of approximately 30 to 60 meters wide and clear ceiling height between 9 to 12 meters. The free organic form is designed for the center to sit in nature and become part of the land-scape. A man-made lake fronting the drop-off area will help in bringing down the surrounding temperature to a comfortable level, thus reducing the overall energy consumption of the building. Besides orienting the building for views, the extensive glass and aluminum clad building creates series of welcoming spaces providing opportunities for the public to pause, observe, discuss and socialize. Each exhibition floor can be further partitioned into 3 individual halls and have a floor loading of maximum 5 ton/sqm of machinery or vehicle weight. This center also houses a main auditorium with a capacity of 1230 pax, a multi-purpose hall, several meeting rooms and display areas.
